Imagine that you are a parent of a 5th grade student. Your child tells you that the class has developed a website and that every student's name and address will be available on the website as a classroom directory. What concerns do you have as a parent and how would you approach the school to address this concern? As a parent, if my child were to tell me that there is a website with their name and our address I would become extremely concerned. First, I would wonder where was the consent in this? I would think that whoever made the decision to create this website and put my child’s and any of their classmate’s information on it should have asked for mine or my spouse’s permission to do such a thing, along with the other student’s parents’ permission.
