Imagine  that you are a parent of a 5th grade student. Your child tells you that the class has developed a website and that every student's name and address will be available on the website as a classroom directory. What concerns do you have as a parent and how would you approach the school to address this concern? As a parent, if my child were to tell me that there is a website with their name and our address I would become extremely concerned. First, I would wonder where was the consent in this? I would think that whoever made the decision to create this website and put my child’s and any of their classmate’s information on it should have asked for mine or my spouse’s permission to do such a thing, along with the other student’s parents’ permission. That is private information that does not need to be given out without permission. Second, I would be concerned in who could find this information. As someone who has always had the philosophy that they would limit their students use technology because it was a physical education class it was hard at first for me to open my mind to this assignment. I kept thinking about how I would be asking my students to sit at a computer and watch this when we could go do this and experience it in person. After doing some research though and finding some resources I realized that I could have my students participating while watching and looking at what I provided them. It may still be more computer time than I like, but I really like and am proud of what I came up with and think that my future students will also enjoy this virtual field trip. 

ACCESS is a virtual learning program for Alabama. It’s a program for schools in Alabama that have limited class offerings that makes it hard to offer classes that are needed for a high school diploma in Alabama. Through ACCESS students have access to 11 AP courses and multiple levels of 5 different foreign languages. The instructor of each course is taught by a Alabama certified teacher. Each course is delivered by one of three ways, web based, videoconferencing instruction, or blended of the two. ACCESS is free to students in public school and there is a fee for non-public school students. Students can also do credit recovery or credit advancement through ACCESS.
